Jonas leaves his girlfriend in New York to play at being an indie rocker in Nashville. His first and only social contact in Nashville is Ken, the confident, worldly, quietly gay middle-aged barista who pulls his espresso every morning.

Ken shows Jonas around town and introduces him to his music industry contacts. Jonas and Ken grow close as they share concerts, deep conversations, and a bit of marijuana.

As their relationship becomes intimate, Jonas insists to anyone who will listen that he isn’t gay.

Jonas came to Nashville to make music, but Ken helps him find something even more beautiful.

Read both the blurb and the author's bio lest you become disappointed: they both make points that are relevant to this story and useful to know before you buy it.
I read both and became disappointed all the same.

This short story is far too explicit and complacent about sexual details/musings not to be considered "erotica" but at the same time it introduces quite a few disquieting thoughts and reflections that distract from the sensual excitement. This is probably what its author wanted but I think the end result is not worthwhile.
It is not a coming of age story as the characters hardly grow but rather set in their own ways. Jonas in particular feels rather obtuse and self-absorbed: he spends all his -narrative- time trying to convince himself he is not gay despite his feelings for Ken. I would not expect him to label himself, after all labels are useful but not necessary, but after a while his constant obsession about being perceived -or not- as gay becomes irritating.
Were this general gay fiction a character like him would be in order: we all know -too- many men who are incapable of coming to terms with what they are and it is logical to see them cast in general fiction. Unfortunately this is also erotica and this constant nagging about "I'm not gay" gets in the way.

Extra Hot Latte Straight Guys Steve Milton Books Reviews

there really is not much of a story just a run around, I was not really impress with the writing and no real plot
Cute but nothing special . I liked how it seemed
so natural for them to be together . Made me want to
have have a nice latte .
Fun realization of all of our barista fantasies. I love Alice Chen!
More like "the rambling thoughts of an out gay male" than a gay romance, the story has some erotic scenes and some psycho-babble issues and while not unpleasant was not exactly what I was expecting.
I started reading Extra-Hot Latte and was immediately caught up in the story line. Sweet, romantic and well told, it kept my interest up until the end. The problem being that the story didn't so much end as just stopped. Left with several questions; Does Jonas ever decide if he is gay, straight, or maybe bi? Does he end up making a life with Ken or does the relationship stop after his two years in Nashville are up? What is the true extent of his relationship with is girlfriend? The characters in this story are engaging, the setting is well developed and the writing is creative. With so much potential for depth, further character development and hints toward several ending options, this book failed to live up to its beginning. I finished reading feeling frustrated and disappointed. I would have loved to read more!
